How to get more Google reviews the right way

Reviews help you rank on Google Maps and win customers' trust. Here's how to get more of them every week, without breaking Google's rules.

Before choosing a restaurant, clinic or repair shop, most people check the stars. Reviews are also one of the signals Google uses to decide which businesses to show on Maps. More good reviews means more trust and more customers.

But there's a right way and a wrong way to get them.

What Google does not allow

Google's rules are strict, and breaking them can get reviews removed or your profile restricted:

  • No paying or rewarding for reviews. No discounts, freebies or raffle entries in exchange for a review.
  • No fake reviews, including reviews from family, staff or yourself.
  • No "only happy customers" filtering. You can't ask only the customers you expect to be happy. Ask everyone the same way.
  • No buying reviews from review sellers. Google detects and removes them.

What works

1. Make it one tap

Open your Google Business Profile and find "Ask for reviews". Google gives you a short link straight to your review form. Turn it into a QR code and put it everywhere: at the counter, on receipts, on your packaging.

2. Ask at the happy moment

The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when the customer thanks you, compliments the food or picks up a finished order. A simple line works:

"Salamat po! If you have a minute, a Google review would really help our small business."

3. Follow up by message

For service businesses, send the link by Messenger or text the same day. Keep it short and friendly, and send it only once.

4. Make it a weekly habit

Steady reviews beat a burst of 30 in one week followed by nothing. Set a small goal, like five new reviews a week, and track it.

5. Reply to every review

Thank people for good reviews by name. For bad reviews, stay calm, apologize for the experience, and offer to fix it privately. Future customers read your replies, and a polite answer to a complaint builds a lot of trust.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give a discount in exchange for a review?

No. Google doesn't allow any reward for reviews, including discounts, freebies or raffle entries. Reviews obtained that way can be removed.

How do I get my Google review link?

Open your Google Business Profile, choose "Ask for reviews" or "Get more reviews", and copy the short link. You can turn it into a QR code for your counter.

Can I delete a bad review?

Not directly. You can reply politely and report a review that breaks Google's policies, such as spam or hate speech. A calm, helpful reply often matters more than the review itself.

How many reviews do I need?

There is no magic number. Aim to have more recent reviews than your nearest competitors, and keep them coming every week.

Can my family and staff leave reviews?

They shouldn't. Google treats reviews from people with a conflict of interest as fake and may remove them.
